I've had this book in my pile for a while and I'm sorry I didn't read it sooner, it was a decadent, delicious treat. Along with the earlier books like The Scarlett Curse and the Sacred Blade of Profanity, this may be one of my favorite Eyenot books--but I've got a lot more in my stack. The more he writes and the more I read, the harder it's going to be to make choices like that--there's the new books, like Quad (wow) also, and...I've got a pile more to read, I bet they're all as good as Flash of Darkness.

'Flash of Darkness' delivers a series of fascinating vignettes that give the reader glimpses into the nature of evil. It's both thought-provoking and chilling in the portrayal of evil as rational and reasoned in the minds of the beings that do its will. These stories are beautifully written, with vivid imagery and a dark eloquence that really enhances the themes and key ideas of the stories. At times macabre, at other times reflective and morose, this is a book that enables the reader to look at life through a darker lens.

"Flash of Darkness" is an entertaining romp of a collection, full of modern characters plagued by classic Gothic issues of madness and morality.

From an immortal that gets high off blood, to a serial killer who keeps desperately trying to convince himself he's just an ordinary man, these figures stalk humankind, unable and unwilling to show mercy.

The only thing that kept me from a five star rating was not getting to 'see' the characters. Stories set from the first person do make that hard, but more imagery would've made the collection even more compelling.

But, there's a wry little story about the author grappling with his literary alter ego, plus the title of this collection is a pun, so how could Eyenot love it?

Excellent writing style. Poetic and gruesome. I thoroughly enjoyed Flash of Darkness! The author takes us on several journeys, each as riveting as the next!

Poetic prose walks you into hell as if it were a normal trek, and hell is a nightmare, a spirit, or you depending how you interpret it. I myself, devoured these masterpiece vignettes in one sitting, as you will too, be led into enthralling lure in this 5 star read.

If you are looking for something creepy to entertain you, you won't be disappointed by this collection of short stories. Toneye Eyenot does a fantastic job in the creepiness department! Some of these stories will definitely haunt me for a while! And, there is humor in some of them to lighten the mood.

I listened to the Audible version and Steve Wotjas does an absolutely wonderful job! He could read the phone book or a technical manual to you and give you the chills! The different voices he used for the stories were spot on and definitely fit the stories every time. I can still hear the creepiest of the voices that he used and will probably hear it in my nightmares tonight!

Writing style wise, I like the way that this book is written, almost old school which gave it romantic sense of horror... not romantic as in a Mills and Boon story but in the way it was written. The stories are left up to you to conjure up what's going on rather than being it being directly in your face... if that makes sense?
I was a good quick read with no complex story lines.
    Definitely worth reading.

Step into Toneye's head, with these quick bits of horror. Mar's cover fits perfectly for what's inside. Just a taste of madness, making you wonder just how dark his stories can be.

Great collection of short stories. My second venture into Toneye's mystical world of darkness and I think I'll rent a room, as this is a great place to be.

Darkness definitely prevails throughout, with some humour injected for an added bonus.

Brilliantly written tales to get your teeth into (see what I did there!). Go check them out.
